“Water colours are my heart and soul” says Paresh Maity who has over a period of 20 years has achieved proficiency in the medium, only few can claim. Whatever surface he chooses to paint, Maity creates magic, the colours are vibrant and the work echoes the passion of the artist. He has briefly experimented with abstract forms, which was more an exercise to free the limitations of painting landscapes. Even when he went back to painting figures the contextual setting was more often neglected. The focus was on the figure, specially the faces, with their myriad expressions, closely cropped, juxtaposed with their surroundings. The stylised, simplified figures have a story to tell of their own, transporting one to an exotic land.
