A postgraduate in sculpture from B.H.U., Tapas has been awarded the 'Young Emerging Artist in Sculpture' at Harmony Show, Mumbai, 2006. He had also won the Govorner's Award' for best best exhibits of Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, 1997-98 and 'Doomimal Memorial Award' 2001 among several others. He had a solo exhibition at Kalakriti Gallery , Hyderabad, 2005, Gallery Alternatives, Gurgaon , 2002 and Gallery Gangatat, Varanasi,2002.He had shown his works in group exhibitions of Aakriti ART Gallery, Kolkata, 2006, 'Summer Show' at CIMA Art Gallery , Kolkata, 'Young Faces of Contemporary Indian Art' at Birla Academy, Kolkata and group exhibition in ABC Gallery, Varanast, 2002, Apart from Harmony Show ,2005 & 2006, Mumbai. He was one of the artist of Gen Next I & Gen Next II at Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata, 2006-2007. He has attended the Show titled 'Time & Material' organized by Aakriti Art Gallery and Art Konsult at stainless Gallery, New Delhi, 2008.  He has attended workshop on Dokra and has numerous works collected by public and private collectors in India & abroad.
