Profile:

Amal Ghosh's paintings display a fusion of his Indian roots with the simplification of the British modern. Since his arrival in England, his imagery has undergone a sea-change from the surreal and the bizarre to the suave and the iconic. He uses the transcultural language of the myth and symbol to weave complex and subtle commentaries. Images drawn from different cultures are sometimes used to signify philosophical or spiritual indicators. His forms are symbolic, narrative and poetic in nature and at the same time appear to be mysterious as well. Clarity and simplicity of form comprises the complexity of their internal structures. They are imbued with hidden meaning, an indicator of which can generally be found in the way he titles his works.
