Asim Basu completed art education from the Govt. College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. He has participated in several group shows and annual exhibitions since 1971. Some of the important group shows have been at Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata 2007, Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, Lalit Kala Akademi, and AIFACS in New Delhi. He has been awarded by the Academy of Fine Arts and West Bengal Charukala Parishad, Kolkata respectively in 1999 and 2000 respectively. He lives and works in Kolkata.

Asim Basu gives shape to contemporary imaginations blended with mundane reality in his metal sculptures. He develops a narrative tale against abstraction is his works which stirs a sense of liveliness and dynamism, thus inviting the viewers for not just a visual impact but to feel the essence of existence and being alive.
