Banatanwi is an exponent of Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan doing M.F.A. in textile design. She is a recipient of the Indian Government Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture in 2007 and also the merit scholarship of Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan from 2002-2006. She has participated in group shows held at the Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata including the 49th National Art Exhibition organized by the same. She is a regular participant of group shows held at the Nandan Art Gallery, Santiniketan. She has also attended major workshops like the Creative Batic Painting workshop, 2008 organized by the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, the Dokra and Jacquard Workshops at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan and also participated in the 21st All India Art contest organized by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.
