Hiran Mitra  is always experimenting with parity of form and dialogue between abstract shapes in juxtaposition. They have often a caligraphic effects where strips of colours and black move in space and make zones of significant silence to set the non-figurative shapes into motion. The visuals then grow in emotional charge and engulf and intoxicate the onlookers. He sometimes divides the work into vertical parts. Together the visual parts make for a visionary symphony. The abstraction of objects in limbo comment on his philosophy of being and becoming. He is one of the founder members of Painters 80, a rebellious painters' group of Kolkata in 1980's. He has illustrated book covers for contemporary Bengali literature.
