Profile:

Samindranath Majumdar spent his formative years in suburban Kolkata. Over the years he has witnessed the transformation of the city which he grew up in. His memories of the city had an everlasting impact on him, which surfaced years later in his works. Memory plays an important role in his paintings.  He walks the fine line between abstract and representational works.

For Majumdar memory is a subject, not a recollecting device. He is influenced by memory and his process of painting is also identical to memory. Born into a family of painters and writers, he started painting at a very young age.

Samindranath Majumdar currently is a lecturer at Indian College of Art and Draughtsmanship,

Major Exhibitions:

.Samindranath has previously shown his work in the  'Art of Young Bengal\', a  show curated by Pranabranjan Ray at  AakritiArtGallery  in July 2006.

 

Awards :

He was awarded Ebrahim Alkaji Endowment Scholarship for research work in 2001-02. Besides, he has was awarded the Annual award from BirlaAcademy of Art & Culture  in 1995 and 2001 and also The Annual Award from AIFACS in 2000.
