Shamshad Husain primarily paints human beings, going about the business of living out their very ordinary lives. It is the mundane, the commonplace that he observes and puts down, transforming them into patterns of line, colour and texture. His colour verges on the monochrome, with sudden interesting passages of blood reds, mustards and pinks.
