Profile:

Sunil De, born in 1948, is a renowned abstract painter who graduated from the Government College of Arts, Kolkata in 1975. He has been actively exhibiting his works since 1976, participating in both solo and group exhibitions across major Indian cities. His work has also reached international platforms, including notable exhibitions like the Singapore Art Festival in 2006 and other prestigious events such as the Banga Sanskriti Sammelan, Calcutta Metropolitan Festival of Art in 1995, and the Millennium Festival of Art in 2000.

De’s style is distinctly abstract, where he explores non-figurative forms within figurative contexts, creating visual experiences akin to a symphony of colors. His paintings are characterized by a dynamic interplay of warmth and coldness, evoking a sense of "visual music." He views abstraction as a realm filled with endless possibilities, and his use of vibrant colors and sweeping lines creates a sense of mystique and serenity. All his works are signed under the name "Suneel."

Throughout his career, De has garnered various accolades, including the “Shilpi Samman” from the Government of West Bengal in 2014. His works have been displayed at exhibitions in Paris and Gothenburg, Sweden, further establishing his international presence.

Sunil De continues to live and work in Kolkata, and his works are highly regarded in the art community for their depth, vibrancy, and innovative approach to abstraction.
He is represented by Aakriti Art Gallery
