Laltu Bose is a contemporary Indian artist based in Hooghly, West Bengal, whose practice is centred on mixed media, painting, drawing, and material experimentation. A self-taught artist, he has pursued art independently for more than two decades, developing his practice through sustained studio work, workshops, art camps, and participation in institutional exhibitions.
Bose’s artistic approach is characterised by an openness to diverse materials and techniques. His engagement with mixed media allows him to combine painterly surfaces, drawing, texture, and found or unconventional elements within a single composition. Rather than treating medium as a fixed category, he approaches it as a flexible visual language through which personal experience, observation, and cultural memory may be explored.
His practice has been enriched by participation in workshops devoted to brush-and-ink drawing, wash painting, watercolour, terracotta, and creative drawing. Among these were workshops conducted under artists and sculptors such as Partha Pratim Deb, Badal Paul, and Tarak Garai. These experiences contributed to his understanding of surface, gesture, material, and traditional artistic processes.
Bose held a solo exhibition at Haraf Art Gallery, Serampore, in 2013. He has since participated in numerous exhibitions across West Bengal, including the Rajya Charukala Annual Exhibitions, the Birla Academy Annual Exhibitions, and the Indian Society of Oriental Art Annual Exhibition. His work has also been shown at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, Gaganendra Shilpa Pradarshanshala, Nazrul Tirtha, Indian Museum, and several regional and independent gallery platforms.
Recent participations include the 58th Birla Annual Exhibition (2025), the Rajya Charukala Annual Exhibition (2025), and successive state and institutional exhibitions between 2023 and 2025. His continued presence in these platforms reflects a sustained engagement with the contemporary art community of Bengal.
His achievements include the Certificate of Merit at Charukala Utsav (2023), recognition in an international online art exhibition in 2020, and an award for terracotta at an international annual exhibition in 2019. His work has also received media attention through reviews in Anandabazar Patrika and coverage on DD Bangla.
Laltu Bose’s practice reflects the trajectory of a self-directed artist committed to continuous experimentation. Through mixed media, painting, and drawing, he seeks to expand the possibilities of visual expression while remaining closely connected to the artistic and cultural environment of Bengal.
